July 2017! The Month of Action

Busyness continued right into the month of July! My team and the BMW students left for Indiana in the evening on the first of the month. There were nine team members on the team and the BMW students came along too. The dynamics were a bit strange this summer in regards to the students and it ended up posing a lot of challenges but Jesus is faithful and taught us out of it, even if it was hard at times. The BMW students go to Indiana to have classes in the morning for separate training. I was not a part of that this summer, even though I am a BMW student. This was because Teen Missions placed me as a leader so I had different responsibilities to uphold. Samuel and Redika McCraken were the head leaders I worked with this summer. I knew them previously from them serving in Cambodia the same time I was there.

Hannah Baptista, Micah Carignan and I were the three van drivers this summer so we began our journey with a road trip! We arrived at the partner ministry (Telling The Truth Ministries also known as TTT) on the morning of my birthday, the 3rd. The first week or so was the sight-seeing portion of our trip. We got to go to the Creation Museum first and it was very interesting. It was really cool to see how creation was explained in ways that we had never thought of it before in a biblical way. That was another thing that was neat, the museum was full of scripture and was teaching things from the Bible in a sound way, in regards to doctrine. After staying at a church that night, we went to the Ark Encounter. This is a museum sort of place that is a life size replica of Noah's Ark, found in the Old Testament. They have many exhibits explaining about the animals, race of humans, science of the flood and other things. Again, it was really enjoyable because we learned a lot of things that we had never thought about before. There were also goats and other animals at both locations that we had the opportunity to pet and that just made it even better. :)

Team evangelism started the next week and we began our scheduled evangelism work then. The days started at around seven o clock. We woke up had leaders meetings while the team members read a book about a missionary. Following this we ate breakfast and then we had Bible marking class. This is a class where we mark certain topics in our Bible and discuss them. I had the blessing of getting to teach this class. Devotions came after that and then some shared what God had been talking to them about that morning. There was normally another class after the talk. Digital Media was added this year to inform teens on the effects and addiction of video games and media. We also did classes on how to be a godly man or woman in regards to relationships in the future, practical living now and stuff like sin, leadership, friends, home life ect. It was a pleasure for me to teach the girls this class. (Except the one about marriage, Redika stepped in for that.) In the afternoon we had, chapel sharing, group devotions and we prepared to go out for ministry.

The ministry on the team was very upfront! We drove to different county fairs every night, set up a tent booth and some water and then we asked the people that walked by if they wanted to take a survey. The survey was about teens and the last three questions really got into deep stuff. #7. Do most teens attend church? #8. If your best friend died tonight would he/she go to heaven? #9. If you died tonight would you go to heaven? #10. How do you know? This was how we started having deep conversations about whether or not people had personal relationships with Jesus Christ. We explained how to accept Christ, have a relationship with Him, why you need Him and who He is. At the end of the conversation we asked if the people we were talking to wanted to accept Christ and it was so very awesome to be a part of what God was doing. We surveyed 1,801 people in four weeks and 181 people made a decision to accept Christ and prayed with us. This summer was the first time that God used me to bring someone to Him and it was very exciting! Redika and Sam put on a nice little banquet for us all at the end of the trip and served everyone.

Some other little ministries we did included, cleaning up in and around the building we were staying in and doing presentations in church on Sunday morning. Every Sunday we attended a different church and the team members shared testimonies, did a puppet show and a drama. We all presented a few songs too.
